Phuc Kien pagoda (Phuc Kien assembly hall)

Fukjianese were Chinese traders who first came to Hoi An in great number, at least in the XVII century. That was the reason why all above mentioned gods were worshipped in this pagoda after the collapse of the old pagoda. This is the most well-known assembly hall in the ancient town.

Visitors regardless of being Vietnamese or foreigners, nobody but steps over the grandiose gate, through a spacious yard full of    plants into the magnificent and colorful worship place with strange statues. Thien Hau Thanh Mau , the sea Goddess, is worshipped in the middle altar, on the left were Tam Thap Luc Tuong   ;(36 generals), on the right three Fairies who created the body of baby, teaching the newIy—born  child during the first twelve months until the first  birthday anniversary. (Some people think they represent 12 years too), Tam Thap Luc Tuong were36famousliguresinChina; Trieu Minh Long,   it  Quan Cong, Hung Vuong, Dien Bao… The altar in the back is used to worship Tanh Vuong Gia. The pagoda was built in 1697; the statue of Thien Hau was brought from Fukjian together with the walls stones. According to some researchers (like Pro Diep Truyen Hoa), the works of Fukjien community in the end of the XVll century was thatch-roofed and till 1757, it was tile—roofed. ln the pagoda, there was the model of the ship. In Singapore there was also a similar model worshipped in a pagoda, but it was burnt down from the burning of incense sticks, and Hoi An was requested to reproduce a new once, which has not been finished yet. Fukjien is the pagoda enjoying the heritage of the Chu Pagoda, Midwife (new one), the two historic sites, the soul of the old town which are considered typical for studying the ancient Hoi  An. Unfortunately enough, these two historic sites have only the screen left as mentioned before.
