Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the autonomous operation of the Russian segment of the Internet. The corresponding document is available on the website of legal information.

The authorities claim that the main purpose of the new law - to protect Runet from external threats and ensure its stable operation even if it is shut off from the global network.

According to the document, ISPs will be obliged to install on their networks special equipment that will provide Roskomnadzor. In the event of the threat of a stable work Runet agency will be able to centrally manage the network with a set of technical means. In addition, the equipment will also filter traffic by limiting access to restricted resources in Russia.

The State Duma approved the document on 16 April and 22 April he was supported by the Federation Council.
