Scariest church in the world
• The worst church in the world
Goosebumps and sticky feeling hopeless fear. Dark building surrounded by a cemetery, creaking floors, cold. You walk inside and see the ghosts - white, shimmering in the darkness shapes the church, which filled the entire space from the entrance to the altar. They sit on benches, they stand in the aisle and at the walls, standing near the pulpit, and instead of people you look down the bottomless black hole. The church is ringing silence, but it seems louder sounds the most powerful explosion.
Built in 1352, the church of St. George in the Czech village of Lukova gradually began to decline in the 60-ies of XX century.
The cause of desolation was the collapse of the roof, which occurred during a funeral ceremony. Money for repairs was not, and the locals are genuinely to believe that the holy place is cursed. Since then, few people looked inside the building.
In an attempt to draw attention to the old historic building local artist Jakub Hadrava turned the ruins into an art object. Now, on the benches for parishioners sit silent still white silhouettes.
The figures depict the ghost of the Sudeten Germans, who lived in the village during the Second World War, and every Sunday, come to this church. This work Hadrava wants to show the world that this place has a story that has a great impact on people.
Spirits and frightening at the same time fascinating.
Thanks to the white ghosts church has become popular not only among locals but also among tourists. The money raised from the tours, the church repaired. While nobody knows if spirits remain after the restoration of the church, or disappear forever.
