The world is much more striking than we can imagine. We still find it in new places and new discoveries are made, despite the fact that as a kind of living here for more than 20 thousand years. In this collection we have gathered the most significant discoveries of researchers over the past couple of months.
1. Scientists have found in Australia "Lost World", where several unique animal species lives
In the course of millions of years, a huge piece of land in the mountains of Cape Mellvil in northern Australia has been isolated from the rest of the world thanks to the huge rocks.
There's never gone before - at least until last month. A group of scientists and their crew went for a walk and found three kinds, of which so far no one even suspected.
Among the new additions to the already bizarre Australian fauna that evolved separately from the rest of the world due to geographical isolation - a monstrously long geckos, frogs and lizards.
These species were found only in one first expedition. Who knows what other new species (or ancient curse) can be detected?
2. under the ice of Antarctica, found an active volcano, which will start sooner or later erupt
This month scientists reported that under the Antarctic ice is found Volcano, which is able to melt all the ice in the southern hemisphere - if you begin to erupt. Vulcan was detected by radio waves reflected from a solid surface beneath the ice.
Of course, the fact that under the Antarctic there are volcanoes, people knew for a long time, but this volcano is unique because it is the only known active volcano on the mainland. Scientists fear that when the - mind you, not if, but when - it begins to erupt, millions of gallons of fresh water can be formed under the ice.
3. In Kenya, found an underground reservoir, whose water will suffice for
Turkana region in northern Kenya is mainly inhabited by nomadic pastoralists. These people are constantly suffering from thirst as Turkana - one of the driest places on Earth. Recently, however, scientists have discovered a huge amount of water directly under the ground: according to preliminary calculations, the body of water can provide the whole country with water for the next 70 years.
Hidden lake was found with the use of satellite and radar technology. The water in it can be significantly cleaner than conventional groundwater.
4. The researchers found a huge cave with its own weather system
In the past month, the researchers found a series of tunnels in giant caves in China. Tunnels led them to an even greater cave system - it must be said that such a huge cave on our planet had never been found. It is so great that it has its own weather.
The cave Dong Er Wan has its own forests, rivers and clouds, and in some of the tunnels can be reached only with the help of ropes or scuba.
