Montreux - made in heaven
So quiet and peaceful
Tranquil and blissful
There's a kind of magic in the air
What a truly magnificient view
So said my headphones on this picturesque place of Freddie Mercury. However, his story raises some "break pattern", because when he wrote this song outside his cozy studio in Montreux was snowing, while outside the bus in which I was heading to the city, was a sunny summer day.
Montreux - a resort town on Lake Geneva. It belongs to the so-called Riviera, the most elite and expensive area of Switzerland. Picturesque these places at all times attracted a variety of rich, aristocrats and intellectuals. Where you lived, worked and rested celebrities such as Tchaikovsky, Tolstoy, Stravinsky, Nabokov. Last besides buried in the vicinity of the city. And in the next Vevo spent their last years of life of Charlie Chaplin and Graham Greene. This is not to mention yet about the famous rock musicians, whose work is closely connected with the city, and to which we shall return.
This just lived the last few years of his life, Vladimir Nabokov.
front of the hotel monument to the writer. Apparently, he also loved to swing on the chair.
Agree, not a bad place to spend the old age: tranquility, clean air and water, medicine - one of the best. Even if you have never written any books or music, everything has to ensure that the start
Especially Montreux was popular with famous rock musicians. Once, one of the ongoing here rock fest any fan fails launches fireworks, causing burnt casino building, which was conducted and a concert. It saw Deep Purple musicians who come here to record a new album. Smoke from a burning building, they spread over the Lake Geneva, inspired them to the famous hit "Smoke on the water". You can imagine what it was enchanting spectacle.
But most of them are connected with the place, of course, mentioned in the beginning of Freddie Mercury and the band Queen. In 1979 they bought here recording studio "Mountain Studio", which recorded their best stuff. At Mercury at different times have been flat and the house. I, by the way, very much like to see that same chalet on the banks of Lake Geneva, in which he often visited, there was composing his own songs, and is sealed to the cover of the album "Made in Heaven", released after his death. But as we found out, it is not easy to implement, and to remove from the same angle as that of the cover disc - it is practically impossible, since the chalet stands on a fenced private land, the owners of which, at the time, already fairly got kvinomany from around the world , so we had to postpone this venture.
In the same studio recorded their most famous records such monsters of rock like AC / DC, Rolling Stones, Yes, Iggy Pop, David Bowie and others. Unfortunately, the studio moved from its historical place in the late 90s. Now there is a casino and a restaurant, so I did not go there.
The last time I was here in the autumn of 2001. Maybe now something has changed, but the fall of Montreux looked quite not crowded and more comfortable, as opposed to the anthill, which I found in the summer. Therefore deserted quays of Lake Lucerne in Bryunnene, which you'll see later, this time I liked more. I do not like the crowds, and the genre of street photography - yet not mine.
And in the vicinity of Montreux is a popular tourist destination Chillon Castle. It was founded in the early Middle Ages, not the 12th, not in the 9th century. Most of the time belonged to the powerful Savoy dynasty. Also served as a prison. It was the site of action or a prototype in the works of George Byron, Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Percy Shelley.
The castle has its own winery. To taste this wine, however, it failed.
The interior of the castle and cellars are quite typical for any medieval castle.
I noticed that 11 years ago, on my first visit, the situation was more medieval, but now it stands spoiled with information. Many historical perspectives have lost because of them their photogenic or were obstructed. Maybe this is certainly the time travel option?
Tourists inside - anthill. Still summer here sold out. The fact that they are not on my pics, says only that I waited a moment and enjoyed a 3-5 second pause between their raids. And in general, I've been a little fotkal.
The only modern "installation" in the castle, which struck me as non-defective.
But best of all - it's views of the castle surroundings. View towards Montreux.
"Behind a window Alps"
The neighborhood of the neighboring town of Vevey. It plugs into the bottom of Lake Geneva, opposite the city's food Museum "Alimentary" stuck artists Jean-Pierre Tsaug and Georges Favre. It happened in 1995 on the occasion of the museum biennium. However, after a year the city administration has demanded that it be removed. Plug back in place in 2007 with one of the shows, and then it was allowed to leave here forever.
I was not in the museum, so I can not tell anything about it. I only know that it was organized by Nestle and is dedicated to promoting healthy eating. The park in front of the museum is also a statue of Charlie Chaplin. The famous actor has lived in this city for the last few years of his life and was buried in the city cemetery, however, after the attempted kidnapping of his remains, burial was moved to a safer place, unknown to the general public.
