In Moscow, the first in Russia to be launched unmanned tram
Apparently, unmanned public transport will appear in Russia much earlier than autonomous taxi. Hints at this latest news that Cognitive Technologies Russian companies and "PC Transport Systems" in the next 1-2 months will launch a test of Russia's first unmanned tram. Details of the new project is not much, but they were enough to make a rough idea of how it will be tested, and how to work the system of automatic control.
Standalone tram will be made on the basis of the model, "Knight-M" produced in 2014 and reach a speed of 75 km / h. Modification will be equipped with automatic control system, created by the company Cognitive Technologies. It comprises about 20 cameras 10 and radars. They are necessary for the recognition of people, cars and other objects and respond quickly to their appearance. According to Olga Uskova president of the company, the system will maintain its operability even in rain, fog and other conditions with poor visibility of the road. The tram is already being tested on Bauman depot site. Upon successful completion of tests on the safe territory, it will be released on the streets of Moscow. Initially, he will be driving around without passengers from Ostankino - Medvedkovo. In this case, the wheel will be in the driver, which in case of danger will be ready to take control in their hands. The commercial launch is planned for 2021.
Perhaps start with a stand-alone transport trams - it is the right choice. In Russia, they are very popular and may equip them with the autopilot system is much cheaper. Moreover, the likelihood that they will create chaos on the roads is very low.
